Varun flies into Geneva and is driven the 45-minutes to the city of Lausanne which overlooks Lac Leman.
He checks into one of the most luxurious properties in Switzerland – The Hotel Beau-Rivage Palace.
Varun’s duplex suite is simply stunning with views to die for.
He has a good exploration of the hotel with François Dussart, Managing Director, before heading off to Crissier to cook with one of the greatest chefs in the world – the three-Michelin starred Benoit Voilier. The dish they prepare and the restaurant itself is superb.
From there, it’s a trip to Domaine du Daley – one of the country’s top wine producers, for a masterclass in wine-making from Cyril Severin… and has a wonderful tasting too!
Switzerland is famed for its watch-making and Varun heads to Saint-Croix to meet Michel, the owner of Parmigiani who crafts some of the most expensive and elaborate pieces in the world.
Staying in the area, Varun heads to the luxury music box-maker Reuge to meet its CEO, Kurt Kupper. These music boxes start at 3,000 Euros a piece! It takes up to a year to craft each box as Varun finds out.
Finally, in Saint-Croix, Varun meets Nicolas Court – the inventor and engineer. He learns about automatons and “robots” that do not use electricity. It’s a truly memorable experience.
To end this episode, Varun heads back to Lausanne and the famed Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne – recognises internationally as the finest hotel school. After meeting lecturer Eric Lunker, Varun is taught how to flambé bananas … which he does with varying degrees of success!
